Okay this is the scoop as I see it. Landed in Chicago... staying around the airport... checked Yelp. noticed the good reviews for this place ...not to far so I drove by. Almost did not go in... not inviting. After you get your lunch or dinner... take the plate and walk outside... remind yourself that this store front produced this meal . go back in and have one of the best food experiences in a while. In a 4 day stay we ate with pleasure there 6 times. Breakfast is awesome . People were very nice !!

Maybe there is a restaurant in a parallel universe at this same address, the reviews say this place is great, but oh my god this place is the worst. Here are the highlights from Sunrise. * upon entering, two dirty coffee cups on the table * I different waitress brought our orders to the table and after digging in the original waitress comes back and tells us the order is wrong with no further explanation what was wrong. * we find out by the evil stares from the table behind us, that one of the plates was theirs. And every few minutes they would turn around and just look at us. * had to back to the counter and ask the waitress what was going on and just got a blank stare. * had go back and ask for jelly for our toast. * the entire time while we were eating, they offered coffee refills to everyone except us. * also during the time we were sitting there, two other tables got the wrong meals. * the food and coffee were just warm, no where being hot The question is what did we do wrong. On the way out the hostess asked "how was everything", I replied with a polite "shitty", in which her response was "okay" No what was wrong or what can I do to make it right.

We take our foodie friends here and they rave. Can't get enough! We had Jose make us 5 gallons of his SPECTACULAR BBQ sauce for our wedding. We fell in love and this is our place to eat! BYOB!

Great little place! Very accommodating. If you are in the vicinity don't pass up the opportunity to grab a good hearty breakfast (made fresh) at this little gold mine.

This place kind of blows your mind. It's got this diner/grill feel. You go in fully expecting a burger and fries, maybe some greek-inspired things. Cup of soup to start... And then you are blown away with Pan Seared scallops with mango chutney relish. Or NY Strip with port wine reduction. Fancy presentations also! Someone knows how to cook. The chef (seems weird to call him this at a grill) offers innovative nightly specials. And the place is cheap. Now, not 5 starts, because my wife got something once that missed... I don't remember the details... maybe overcooked or undercooked or not prepped to specifications. I don't remember. Oh, another thing... my wife's been here for breakfast. It was fine. Not really distinguishable from the thousands of other breakfast places out there. Not outstanding, but not disappointing either. But, by and large, for dinner, this place is a hidden gem, offering top notch food and presentation at grill prices.

I've read my share of reviews of misguided Yelpers in search of a good suburban brunch spot who ended up at a Denny's or got sick at some buffet place. Well, I got a great find, everyone! Actually, my mother-in-law found it first a few months back with the grandkids, but I finally got to go there. For several weeks, I kept finding these big, thick and fluffy leftover pancakes in my fridge and I'd eat them, wondering where they came from. So I finally checked out the place on a Sunday morning right before noon, at a peak brunch period. Sunrise Grill is located on Touhy in a drab stretch of strip mall between Evan's Gyros and a 7-11. Inside, it is a clean and bright place with brilliant shades of yellow, blue and green on the walls and a mural of a sunrise over the dining counter area. Clean tables and clean floors, and fast service impressed me. It was pretty crowded with the after church folks when we got there, but the waitress got us our water and menus pretty quickly. The thing about eating out with kids is keeping them occupied till the food arrives. Without paper mats to color, the next best thing are the little square containers of jams, butter and the sealed half & half shot-sized cups. Sorting and stacking games ensued for the next 10-15 minutes as we waited for our food. And when it arrived, it was just plain awesome. I ordered a bacon, egg & hash brown skillet, which comes with 2 of those big pancakes as well! My eggs were over-easy and perfectly prepared, with the yolks oozing and coating the strata of bacon and hash browns below. My kids got an adult-sized mostaccioli dish they split. It came with 2 pieces of a zesty, cheese-covered garlic bread too. My wife got an egg white omelet and 2 more of the giant pancakes. Even as the tables around us were filled with patrons, our waitress took good care of our table. In all, for the meals we ordered as a family of 4, our total was $20, tax included! Talk about a great value. And as a bonus, I'm staring down 2 more yummy, giant leftover pancakes calling to me from the fridge this morning....

I read the reviews and none of them surprise me. I'm a "regular" so here's what I can add. PROS -fantastic food, pretty consistently-- we've only had 1 meal that was ghastly and they gave us our money back but every other time the meals have been absolutely fantastic -fancy presentation of food -cheap -well lit and sunny (my elderly dad likes that) -nice happy waitresses -easy to get to location CONS -AWFUL service. look at these reviews-- most of the complaints are always about service. the waitresses are nice but way overworked so the service is terribly slow and I can definitely see why some reviewers said their orders were screwed up or they got ignored. -crowded. In this economy, that's a testimony to how good the place is, but it also means the place is loud and hard to get around in. I go there in big groups with my family with my grouchy old dad who they tolerate nicely and my 2 impatient kids. We always call ahead to put in our order and make it very clear on the phone that the kids will act up if their meal isn't waiting for them when we arrive. We are always treated kindly and respectfully with great understanding and I think they appreciate that we call ahead actually. If you are looking for a great meal at a low price and you have time to kill and/or call ahead to order, this is a great restaurant. I hope one day they expand so it's not so crowded and can accommodate more people and afford more waiters so the service improves!

We went here for Mother's Day, as we needed to look for something close to O'Hare. Gave it 4 stars because their signature dish was absolutely delicious. Lost a star because of slow service. Keep in mind it was Mother's Day, this place was packed, and people were happily waiting. It is obviously a favorite with the locals. In our server's defense, she was excellent, helpful, and friendly, however, she had 4 tables with more than 8+ people and a table of 5 and no one can keep up with that load without help. It took 40 minutes from the time the order was placed until the food was brought to the table. The food was hot, the service was friendly, and would go their again for the nest. The nest, their trademark dish, is kind of like a skillet with the ingredients wrapped in crispy crunchy hash-browns. My husband ordered the ranchero nest and it was fantastic but spicy & I ordered the farmer's garden nest which was delicious.

Eggs are delicate. Cooking them requires a similarly gentle touch. A chef I knew once told me that the true test of a chef is how they cook eggs since they are so easy to overcook or undercook. This is all prelude to this simple but wonderful statement: Sunrise Grill knows their eggs. While I was there, I went for a classic diner plate and ordered eggs over easy with hash browns and toast. The eggs over easy were done perfectly. Not greasy, not overcooked. Perfectly shaped with a runny center. I loved my breakfast plate and would take anyone here for a classic breakfast. They also carry a wide selection of imaginative crepes and pancakes. I might head back to test those out next time.

It was okay. White bread, lots of fried items. Very minimal vegetables. Price was decent. Took a long time to get service, including water, and had to practically beg for refills. Specifically stated no potatoes - got them anyways and they were super greasy looking. Best thing was the side salad which was fresh and well presented. Dressing was typical HFCS fare though. So - okay but I would recommend it to anyone.

I was looking for a place around O'Hare to have some lunch meetings with coworkers from around the city and stumbled upon Sunrise Grill. I am SO glad. I went for my first time a few weeks ago and its cozy place that wasn't too crowded on a weekday morning. The service was fine and the food was your typical diner fare. But the prices were reasonable and the food tasted GREAT. I had beef barely soup and a tuna melt, which was all delicious. My coworker got a salad and enjoyed it as well. If you are looking for a great diner in a geographically strategically area near the airport, Sunrise Grill is your place. I am definitely going to be coming back to Sunrise Grill. You should check it out, too.

haha. I pretty much have no words for this place. My dad originally heard about this new place Sunrise grill and gave it a try. I asked him how it was, and he replies, "really good. really different but really good." When I asked him what "different" meant, he couldn't really describe it....and after trying it out for myself I'm pretty much stuck as well. After the 20 or so minute drive it took to get to this place.... we pulled into a strip mall-like kind of dingy parking lot. I'm already like, "Ummm dad...." well, It's BYOB so we conveniently grabbed a $10.00 bottle of moscata at the liquor store that sits right next door. After walking in...I'm still thinking.."ummmmm dad...." when this little 3 ft lady walks up to us with menus and tells us to sit anywhere. The place was pretty empty around 5pm, and looked like a diner with a TV and the owner (the little lady) sitting at the stools watching TV the whole time we were there. Anyways, the menu looked very dingy-diner like as well but my dad kept reassuring me it was really good. So I ordered a 10.95 eggplant parmasan special, which came with chicken noodle soup and pasta. wooooow. By the looks of this place, you are expecting some drab diner-esque food, but my pre determined thoughts of the atmosphere led me to a mistakingly harsh assumption of the food! REALLY good. Although the atmosphere is strange to say the least, the food was really a pleasant surprise, especially for what you are paying. The "specials" that are different each day written on a little chalkboard in the front come with soup or salad and a side, and all very reasonable prices. & their garlic bread is pretty amazing....make sure you ask for it.... Definitely give this random place a try, because more than likely, you will be walking out saying, "hmmmm"

Awesome breakfast spot! It's a little small here but the food is delicious! The pancakes were up there with the best I've ever had.. not quite the best but probably a solid #2. The hash browns were also very good. I should also say that the service was excellent, food came in a hurry and our coffee was topped off promptly. A+ for effort Sunrise Grill!

I love food and I love to cook food. I was very impresed by the love and time put into the food at the Grill. From the salad to the Beef Stroganoff I was delighted. We even had Key Lime cheesecake, our favorite. I highly recommend this grill for a wonderful meal that will give you plenty to take home. Sarah and Joe

Breakfast at Sunrise Grill is always good. Especially their Sunrise French Toast... But their Dinner Specials are fantastic. You get Gourmet dinners with diner prices.. Jose is the center of the universe at the Sunrise Grill. A Chef ( not a cook) I love places like this, I wish there was one like it at my hometown. You will not be disappointed with his dinner items. Whenever I am in town for business, I make sure to stop by at least once.. I also love the fact you could bring your own wine for dinner. Now it is Jan. 2013, it still great food, but surprise at the prices and portion. I guess someone is giving bad advice to Jose, when you charge almost fine dining prices with diner amenities it could back fire. You could loose alot of leverage competing with other local restaurant..

YOU DO NOT WANT TO GO HERE!!! ......This place has terrible, helps bad, bad food, no parking, terrible dirty..STAY AWAY!!!!!! BUT REALLY if you come here then there's less room for the rest of us who know the place has GREAT dinners ( Wed to Sat ) Breakfest is good standard stuff served with endless coffee. Lunch has standard menu and specials with homemade soups. Dinner on menu are better then most. HOWEVER dinner specials are great food at modest prices. Four or five things a night on the list.... when there gone and you didn't get yours, SUCKS TO BE YOU!!!

A small restaurant you find along Touhy Ave in Des Plaines. Looks could be really deceiving. Not your typical "American Grill" with all the fancy decors but the food is superb. I was invited by my American friends to come here and I was glad to have said yes. Indeed it was a wonderful experience.

I have been a frequent diner at Sunrise Grill for several years. The food has always been exceptional and at a great price. The negative: it continues to have the worst service and most incompetent waitress EVER!!! Seriously, they wander around looking lost, or just stand there looking at each other. It will take 10-20 minutes to get a cup of coffee or a soda. I am a big fan of the Chef, but I often opt for other restaurants when I am not in the mood to deal with the incompetent serving staff.

First - disclosure - one of our friends is a waitress there.. so we went to check it out. We got there and looked at a little mom-and-pop strip-mall grill. We entered and you are presented with a pretty plain and basic restaurant interior.. BUT THEN.. watch out for the specials.. I had lobster ravioli (awesome!). My wife has scallops with pineapple, mango, salsa and raspberry sauce drizzled around it... she said it was delicious. You will find that the presentation gives you an early warning of how excellent the food is.. (btw, we went there for dinner). We found out that the cook is actually a trained chef... Prices ? $5/pp and up for the good ol' basics (burgers and such) to up to $15/pp for the specials.. (including soup or salad). All in all - a GREAT find. Like another reviewer said before - a classy, excellent upper scale food experience, hidden in a strip-mall grill, wrapped around a really feasible pricing !!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Oh, btw.. BYOB.. with a liquor store right next door :-)

Simple, friendly, cheap local diner with average food and good service. +: extended menu: scramblers, crepes, salads, sandwiches, soups... -: Nothing special about the food... Will do the job at feeding you below $10.

I enjoyed the lamb chop special which was amazing to look at and delicious. The service was a bit slow, but that could have been due to not an empty seat in the house. This was my first time here, so I'd definitely give it another try to comment on the service.

I love this little breakfast spot! It's delicious and inexpensive. I typically get the lumberjack combo which is eggs bacon sausage and pancakes (which are absolutely phenomenal) I noticed they always give u an extra egg which is great! It's a hidden gem check it out!

A Great Find!!!! The short ribs are to die for; served on a wine reduction, fall-off-the-bone tender. Absolutely delicious. I've had dreams about them since we were there. Husband had the pot roast and it was equally as good. Portions are "normal size" not enormous like so many mediocre restaurants. I'd rather have excellent food to eat than bring home "okay" leftovers!!! The salad was beautiful and the soup was homemade. Can't speak highly enough about the quality of the food.

I'm giving it the extra star, because I'm more than a fan, but had some qwirks. A nice, welcoming little setting. Great home cooking. At 8 AM, it was about half full. The menu offers lots of interesting options and some good early bird specials. I wanted to try a skillet, so I got a basic, hashbrown, cheddar, topped with 3 eggs. OE came out OM (all you have to do is count to 30 and flip). Hashbrowns in reality are homefries, and should be labeled as such. Difference, hb are shredded. These were sliced, and totally delicious on there own. The cheese appears to be raw, but miraculously starts melting into the potatoes, and you have a great breakfast. One of the skillet items is skirt steak, love that cut. I wish the hb had onions for a little extra flavor, but I kept thinking I'd add ketchup, and it just never needed it.I got a biscuit instead of toast. I wasn,t aware that they automatically grill it, it was very tasty, but be warned if you like it undone. I'm glad I didn't order coffee, because it's the farmer bros. brand which I hate. I chose to sit at the counter, and the waitress was very nice to this out of towner. I also love that it,'s in a handy little strip mall, without all the frills, just necessities, like 7/11 and a pizza joint that's not a chain.

My experience with this place was unfortunate because so many people I know talked about how good it was and the reviews were good, so we were looking forward to trying it. We went there early Sunday afternoon for a late breakfast. When we walked in, nobody greeted us and we just stood there for a couple minutes not knowing whether to seat ourselves or wait to be seated. Finally, a young girl came over and led us to a booth. The waitress came over and took out drink order. We ordered cokes and we were informed that they have, ugh, Pepsi. Strike one. We noted that the prices were very reasonable, which is always good. The food came out pretty quickly but the waitress didn't bring all of our stuff and I assumed she was going to get the rest, but instead she started chit chatting with the other girls behind the counter. We had no salt and pepper, no butter and syrup for our pancakes and I was missing my toast. We had to ask the bus boy to bring us everything else. To top things off there was a family with a bunch of kids and one of them was having a temper tantrum THE WHOLE ENTIRE TIME WE WERE EATING!!!! I know it's not the restaurant's fault but it just made the experience so much worse. The pancakes are delicious and the other food is pretty good - not the best omelet I've had, but decent. Maybe they were just having a bad day but definitely not a good first impression.

I love this place! Every review has hit the nail on the head with the restaurant's price - extremely inexpensive. I enjoy having breakfast for dinner some times and you can have breakfast anytime when you go, althought the waitresses will tell you in the evening the chefs can not make waffles. The staff is friendly, courteous, and attentive. My family and a few friends went here after church one Sunday and even though I don't care for eggs, their omelets looked delicious and were a large enough portion. The side order of ham each of my parents ordered was enormous, perfectly cooked, and YUMMY! I go here just about every Sunday because I like it that much. It does get crowded on Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings from the church crowds so get there early!

Ok so don't tell ALL your friends, but this place ROCKS at night. They have a chef that is a culinary institute grad, french cuisine and the dinner specials are cheap and AWESOME. Don't be fooled by the exterior or lack of ambiance inside. YUM YUM

This restaurant is the best kept secret--although not so secret when you see every booth and table full of families...downtown 1st class food/presentation/dining with low, "grill" prices...no better food anywhere.,.presentation is SUPERB! . You may bring your own liquor--liquor store a couple of doors down--restaurant will provide glasses. Check to see if/when they're open before you go....Virginia.

Very selective friends recommended this place I had driven past it thousands of times before my first experience. From the outside it looks like just a regular diner. When you sit down, it still feels like a regular diner. When your food comes you know you are no longer in a regular dinner... Your taste buds go into sensory overload with all the delicious flavors! I've eaten here for breakfast and dinner both are delicious! Breakfast, I had corned beef hash and eggs. For dinner I had braised beef ribs they were completely totally 100% awesome! It's rare that you go to a place where everything seems freshly prepared and not fresh off the Sysco truck kudos to you Sunrise Grill!

OK, SO, I would like to preface this review with the fact that I can only rate the food and employees, as I ordered food to go (so I can't rate the cleanliness, though it looked clean, or the dining room service); I also had a coupon, which made this a phenomenal deal. I'll start with the bad: there was a bay leaf in my soup. (I know this isn't actually bad.) Now the good: I ordered a side salad, which was huge, for a side salad. There was romaine and red leaf lettuce in it, no iceberg (freakin' awesome, I HATE iceberg). There were also sweet onion pieces, cucumber dices, and tomato dices. It was exceptional for a side salad. I also ordered the green avocado wrap, with a side of soup (instead of chips or fries), totally expecting to taste the soup and either toss it or save it for later. The wrap has pesto on it, and avocado, which don't seem like they would be great together, but they do. There was the perfect amount of each on the wrap. You could taste everything, and it was delicious. The wrap also had deli turkey, sliced tomatoes and more red leaf lettuce. It also came with a pickle spear and coleslaw; the pickle spear was good, it didn't taste commercial, and the coleslaw was good as well, it was creamy, sweet and tangy. Good job with all that. Finally, I had the navy bean soup. It. Was. Delicious. It was definitely homemade, it had chunks of ham in it, the vegetables were irregularly cut, and it was hot. Some of the best soup I have had in a long time. Needless to say, I ate the whole bowl... This is how restaurants should be. Everything was fresh and of good quality. They do the things in their restaurant that you see on TV. When someone calls Gordon Ramsay to save their restaurant, he tells them you have to use fresh ingredients when possible, and you have to make food fresh. Great job owner/chef/cook/manager. On to service. When I walked in, the place was about half full, and one of the waitresses said sit anywhere you want. I told her I wanted to order to go, and she said "OK, gimmie a minute, I'll grab a menu for you." She did. Then the woman behind the counter asked if I was ready to order, and took my order, and told me it would be 5 minutes. She was right. They were both very nice. The woman who gave me my food actually gave me a full cup of iced tea and another of ice, so I would get more tea. Seriously? Super thoughtful. I will be back. This place has everything I look for in a restaurant: good ingredients, good food, reasonable prices, and homemade stuff.

Planned a trip to visit grams in McHenry. Researched locations to have breakfast since we were going to arrive in the morning. Found this place online and saw nothing but good things about it. This place is fantastic! The people who work there are friendly to say the least and the food was great. We were a group of 6 plus a four year old and they had no problem seating us. Highly recommend the crepes, waffles, and the ranchero nest. To top it all off, the price is right.

My wife and I were looking for a place to eat in Des Plaines as we were in the area. I found an offer for the Sunrise Grill on Groupon for $30 for $15. Yelp rates it 4 stars so we thought we would give it a try. The Sunset Grill is in a strip mall. The interior is a little cheesy & dated. The service was a little slow, but we were finally able to order. The food prices are not too expensive & decent size portions. The waitress was pleasant enough with a good personality and sense of humor. She started with garlic bread that was very good w/butter, fresh garlic, herbs & Parmesan cheese. We scared that down very quickly and waited for the waitresses return. When she came back we ordered & asked for more garlic bread. I ordered the skirt steak in a reduced wine sauce (nice presentation) This came with mashed potatoes, yellow & purple cauliflower, split pea soup & a piece of dill for garnish. The soup was tasty, but a bit too salty. The cauliflower & mashed potatoes were nothing noteworthy but tasted good. The main course was the skirt steak w/a wine reduction sauce. It was pretty good, but once again a little too salty. Overall I would rate this 3 1/2 stars, a little better then average. My wife ordered the gyros plate which came with split pea soup, gyro meat, pita bread and a cucumber, tomato & onion salad. The gyro meat was pretty good. I've had worse and I've had better. Once again 3 1/2 stars For desert we split a flan courtesy of Yelp (Thanks Yelp) Overall I would rate Sunrise Cafe 3 1/2 stars

My mate and I took our first trip trip to Chicago and I yelped breakfast places near me and this cafe showed up with decent reviews. Our waitress was definitely quirky but super sweet. I ordered the gyro breakfast skillet and my mate ordered a blt. Both were very flavorful and delicious. Coffee was great too. I recommend this place for sure. It would be awesome if they had juevos rancheros on their menu though! As a side note we asked our waitress about artichokes and she couldn't recommend a good place to get some...but that's okay. She was super sweet!

I absolutely love this place!! I have never ever had a bad experience from this place.. The waitress Stephanie is awesome.. And not just because we share the same name.. She is funny and is always willing to go above and beyond.. The corned beef hash skillet is the best as well as the Mexican skillet. Good coffee and great service.. You honestly can't beat it!! Be careful as the place is normally packed on Saturday and Sunday mornings!! Great place to get the perfect hangover cure!!

A decent breakfast place with easy and open pull-in parking for their strip mall location. They also have a pleasant, sunny, and airy dining room. I'd say more like 3.5 stars overall. We tried their Farmer's Garden omelette and their Baby Girl french toast (with granola and fruit chunks). The potato hash in the omelette could have been browned a little more for more flavor, but otherwise it was plenty fine.

A hidden breakfast goodie in Desplaines. Saw a Groupon and knew nothing more than the photos looked great. The local law enforcement eats there and that's usually a good sign, isn't it? The food was super reasonable and for a good size, they had a children's menu with a variety of selections and the food was not too salty or greasy. Everything was clean-I was impressed with the bathroom since I had to take my daughter and it was a one-staller. The service was quick and polite. They were sweet to my toddler who was covered in whipped butter and pancake crumbs and accommodating to us by letting us sit in a booth with a high chair (restaurants rarely let customers do this anymore! Argh!) So, if you're ever in Desplaines and need to eat a hearty breakfast, go here!

Great diner atmosphere! Prices are great and food was filling and tasty. Close to O'Hare. Would come back for sure if ever in the area again.

My wife and daughter and I stopped here for breakfast after we picked up our car at a nearby hotel. Our first thought was to head into the City but we were afraid there would be a long wait. We were seated right away here. My daughter had the crab Benedict which was very good. My wife had the berry crepes which had lots of fresh berries and were delicious. I had a hash skillet which was tasty. The skillet included two eggs and pancakes. Everything was hot and delicious. Both of the egg dishes were listed as including two eggs but they actually gave us each three. Service was a little slow and the coffee was weak, but this same food downtown would have cost 50% more. If you're looking for breakfast near O'Hare this place can't be beat

Drove by this place a few times and thought that it might be worth a try for breakfast, so I took the plunge. Walked in around 8AM on a Monday morning and there was hardly anyone there - usually not a good sign. Sat down and a few minutes later, got a menu to look at. Thought I would try something that was unique to their menu, so I opted for the "Baby Girl's Favorite Skillet" This comes with corn beef hash (canned variety), potatoes that resembled large hash browns, onions and cheddar cheese, topped by two eggs as you like them. Pleasant surprise - it was really tasty. My pitfalls were few, though should be mentioned. First, I ordered English muffins lightly toasted, but they weren't. The waitress wasn't paying much attention when I told her. Also, I ordered tomato juice - she poured what was left in a pitcher, then went to pour the rest from a can that had settled a little (I saw water come out of the can and into the glass she gave me). Then, she poured the "new tomato juice" into the same pitcher that the "old" juice was in - not really a good idea. But that said, this was still a good unsuspecting find. I'll go back for lunch or the specials if I'm in the area.

Sept. 9th I used my Groupon thirty dollars off for dinner! YUCKSVILLE!! My girlfriend ordered a sirloin steak. When the waitress arrived the steak was about the size of small napkin!. Not to mention the dollop of rice served with the steak. The size of the rice size was so tiny she could barely see the rice on her fork! My entree was service with a salad so small and scanty, the one cucumber slice was bigger than the three pieces served as a salad. Not even enough to feed a small rabbit!. Service consequently was as lousy as the meal! However, Sunset Grill was located near a busy liquor store, appearing to selling alcohol to underage sixteen or seventeen age male teenager's. Wow, just imagine cocktails with dinner compliment's of their liquor neighbor next door! My experience at Sunset Grill Sept. 9 2015 topped my list of lousy restaurants. I do not under their high rating! Cocktails anyone?. Despite the glowing reviews of Sunset Grill please take my advice and avoid, their are much better quality restaurants than this dump!

Within the last 6 months I attended an event in the little hall off the restaurant. The food was excellent, so I decided to bring my parents for a late lunch. The service was not good. The food was just ok. I was embarrassed that the experience was so sub par because I had told my parents how good the food was at the event. Too bad....

Had a groupon. Went with my Dad. We got the lamb shank which was amazing and the skirt steak sandwich which was very good! FYI, it's BYOB and there is no corkage fee. We went at about 445pm on a Tuesday and the place was almost full. The outside does not look like much, but the food is great. The success of chef Jose and Maria is well deserved.

Working in the Chicago suburbs in January. Hotel breakfast so depressing and expensive. Tried this little gem... Service is fast and super friendly. Food is really good too. A nice change from airport hotels. Really glad I ventured out here. Twice, actually.

We have been waiting over 45 minutes for our breakfast (which may or may not end up being great). They are filling a take-out order- I have seen about 30 boxes so far, and in the mean time, they have not made a single meal for anyone in the restaurant. The staff are so busy bagging and boxing all the take-out orders that they aren't even offering coffee refills. Currently, all the tables are full of customers and no one has food. I hope these take-out orders aren't a regular occurrence for the customers who dine in, but because of today, I will not be returning. I feel bad for the waitresses. This is not their fault and now their tips are going to suffer.

Oh my baby Jeezus.. this place was the best little hole in the wall surprise ever! Its in a little strip mall close to O'hare and one of the young girls that checked me in at my hotel suggested the place- it was amazingly delicious! We arrived and noticed only one other table in the entire place- scattered with grungy booths and old tables that looked like the one my grandma had in the 80's. We were promptly greeted by Sherri- loved her!!! She offered hot coffee and suggested the fresh sqeezed OJ- uh, excuse me?? FRESH Squeezed?? Hell yeah I'll have some! It was pulpy and bright- they leave the seeds in too- I didn't even care.. I need the fiber, right?? After scanning the menu basics- eggs, bacon, french toast.. I spotted some plates that I would never had expected- crab cake eggs Benedict with pesto hollandaise?? Crepes?! Marscapone stuffed french toast? This is no IHOP people! I opted for the Ranchero Nest- basically a chorizo, pepper, tomatoe and cheese omelet wrapped inside a hashbrown shell-topped with fresh pico, guacamole and sour cream- I don't know how they did it but it was food of the gods I tell you!! I originally asked for no onions, but when Sherri noticed I dissected it and found them she promptly had a new one made for me. By the time we left the place was buzzing with sweet lilttle elderly couples who were greeted by name and asked if they wanted the usual.. I flove places like this! GO EAT HERE!!

I was looking forward to coming here but wound up being very disappointed, The food was good, but the service was terrible. Right at the start, the waitress complained and was very obviously frustrated about being short-staffed. It made us really uncomfortable and I was debating whether we should stay. We decided to stay because of the great reviews we saw here. When it came time to place our orders, I was regretting my decision. Any slight variations (no cheese on an omelet) were met with "Well, I'll try..." She kept complaining about the kitchen. When the food arrived, one order was wrong and the other order wasn't there. The missing order was the simplest one! The waitress asked for that order to be repeated three separate times while the rest of us had our food. The rest of the staff seemed really friendly, but our experience will keep me from coming back.

Well, the good news is that the food here is pretty good. The bad news is that the service really sucks. My husband had spicy peppers in his food and had run out of water and, rather than check even once to see if we needed anything, the server literally sat down at another table with a group of people who she must have known or something. She just sat there and chatted away while my husband was practically choking. We had to go over and ask her to please refill our waters. Pathetic. I do have to say that my Mexican skillet was pretty good, though. Not good enough to get over the bad service, though. I will not be returning here.

I found this gem on Yelp for a breakfast and it was highly rated so I tried it. It is an awesome place to eat breakfast. The waitress was great, the eggs Benedict was wonderful, and REAL fried potatoes. Stop and enjoy.

Good solid food. Me and my wife was looking for a place to eat breakfast outside of our hotel. Use the yelp app to find a location close to out hotel at ohare. Staff was nice and courteous and the food was very good. Loved the hash Browns. Good solid food at reasonable prices. Beats paying 15 dollars for muffins bagels and orange juice at our hotel

Went for dinner on our first trip. Great food, very fresh flavors presented beautifully. Had the lamb shanks, an item I wouldn't even expect to find on a diner menu, and they were the best I've had. The service does leave something to be desired, although we'll definitely go back soon.

We love coming to this place! We live almost right across from Sunrise Grill and we didn't even know about it until a few months ago. Actually we were initially hesitant to try it out. Most places in the suburbs that I've visited are not worth coming back to. Not so with Sunrise Grill. They serve huge portions, the food presentation and taste are restaurant quality, and the service is great! My favorites for this week are seafood omelet (breakfast), pot roast (dinner) and short ribs (dinner)!

  • Rachel K.

Great breakfast joint with reasonable prices. The chorizo nest was really good and different, they wrapped an omelet in hash browns and put homemade pico de gallo/salsa on too. Pancakes and maple syrup were my favorite. The skillets were also good. I highly recommend for anyone looking for a low key good traditional breakfast.

Stopped in for breakfast on my way to work a couple weeks ago and I think I found a new go-to spot. I had a great ham and cheese omelet that was so big I could only eat about half of it before I was stuffed. Very generous portions, great breakfast and have heard from co-workers that lunch and dinner is even better. I will definitely be returning.

Great food, service has been a little slow when we've been there on busy Sunday mornings, but everyone was friendly and helpful. From the outside we thought it was a dive-type diner but the food selection is much higher quality than a Denny's or Eggsperience. Highly recommend.

Great place for breakfast!! Stayed at hotel a mile away and found this place on Yelp. It surely didn't disappoint!! The food was great and the staff was friendly:) We had the fluffy avocado omelet with added chorizo and the Mexican skillet. They were both delicious and the prices are fantastic! We will definitely come back next time we are in the neighborhood!

Amazing little hole-in-the-wall find Don't let the decor detract you. As soon as you walk through the door you're going to think you accidentally went into a run of the mill brunch diner or "greek" restaurant. While the inside might not look so upscale the food is a complete 180. The menu is relatively small, but that's similar to what you'd find in many truly great restaurants. The chef has specials that change regularly and the whole selection is really damn good. Everything from the soup, to the salads, to the entrees, to the desserts is unexpectedly well prepared in both the food quality and presentation. Last time I was there I had an amazing vanilla creme brule. I don't even usually like creme brule and it was still just surprisingly good. The chef who owns/runs the place used to work at a facility in Park Ridge and even then with a mass producing kitchen he was known for keeping everything top notch. With his own place it's gotten even better. Because it's family run and sometimes rather difficult to keep up with demand in a small location, the service can sometimes be slow, but it's worth the wait. The restaurant is also BYOB and conveniently located next to a liquor store, so it can also be a good idea to pick up a nice bottle of wine and have a good long meal. It's a shame this restaurant isn't open more often, it does sometimes keep only weekend hours depending on staff availability, but even if you can't make it in right away, put it on your list.

We travel to this area several times a year. We always skipped thus place because it is stuck in a small strip mall. We opted for years to drive to IHOP or over to Denny's. This place was recommended by a friend. We tried it out and were very happy. It is now our go to place for breakfast. Service is ok to good. Food is good. Feel like we aren't at a "big box" chain store. Waitress is talkative to you like you are family. Perhaps a bit too much for some. But it feels like you are eating at home. Some picky people may not give a great review but we will be here every time we come to visit family.

I've never had to update my review negatively but this is a must. I love this place, the food is delicious and I have never had a bad meal there, their biscuits and gravy are delicious and the ranchero nest is sooooo good. But literally every time I go there lately the service has been awful. Last time we went someone got up from the table and asked the server for some toast that was not brought out, no big deal. Then didn't come back to ask how anything was, the buser came out and cleared our whole table while the waitress literally stared at our table talking to another server, I honestly just think she did it to be rude because we got up and asked for something she forgot. We looked at her to get her attention but got nothing. We waited another 10 minutes and I finally had to go ask for the check. I feel like every time you go in there there is always a huge wait when you first sit and there is never an apology given. I can't say all my servers have been awful but the last few time they have been. When I have guest come in I love to bring them here but I always warn them that the wait is going to suck and the service is hit or miss. It's unfortunate that such a great restaurant can't have servers that will treat you politely. I think it's the manager, the woman that stands at the register and walks around, it always very nice so I can't complain about her. But get your servers in check! I can't give a worst rating because the food is so good!

Dinner is back on the table; limited to Thu-Fri-Sat nights. Posted on Facebook Tuesday was this message : "And now, the announcement you've all been (patiently) waiting for ... WE WILL BE BACK SERVING DINNERS AGAIN !!! Starting Thursday, September 19th ! We will be open for dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights only. We've streamlined the menu, keeping the favorites, and adding a few new dishes. We feel these new selections will help us to serve you better, and in a more prompt manner. We've kept the Lamb Shank, Skirt Steak, Short Ribs, Salmon, Shrimp Risotto, Eggplant Cannelloni and Stroganoff, and we've added thin Pork Chops, Lump Crab Cake dinner, and a half marinated Chicken. There's a new Salad, a new Sandwich, and more choices for side salads and soup. Please come back and see us ... we've missed you !" I will be back soon and I hope whatever issues they had have been worked out so they don't keep creating a void in the stomachs of Jose's loyal followers.

Our experience was truly a mixed bag. When we went in around 4:15pm, the place was empty. We were seated immediately but then didn't see our waiter for quite a bit. I appreciate that when I started looking towards the back it seemed like they were switching over to the dinner menu and educating each other on the specials, but in my opinion they could have done our waters first and then done that. As for our food: We both had the soup: it was mediocre, served witg HUGE spoons, a tiny cup and no crackers or bread. nit a deal breaker, but odd. My husband said it tasted like they dipped a clam chowder spoon into the chicken noodle soup. I was sick with a cold so I didn't notice that. We both had sandwiches. A BLT and. Gyro. Both were ok. Nothing I'd RAVE about but it was satisfying. My thoughts are that well come back here to try the breakfast but won't come back for dinner or lunch. It seemed pricey for a dated mom/pop diner but like I stated earlier, it wasn't bad. I'll update if we go back

Delicious breakfast but better than average dinner last nite. Crab cakes, shrimp risotto and beef stroganoff all delicious and beautifully presented. You might miss this place or not expect it to be the delightful and delicious place it is by just driving by. You will not be disappointed, I guarantee! This is as good as a downtown fine dining restaurant that you can experience without dressing up or spending a fortune for parking. 1

We go here once a week for breakfast and they consistently deliver great food and service! My kids say they have the best pancakes in the world, but I can only vouch for their omelettes and skillets; I have tried a few and they have all been delicious! My favorite though is the pesto green omelette with fresh avocado... Yum! I always ask for a side of their homemade pico de gallo as well. I almost forgot to mention, the menu is extremely affordable and won't break the budget!

I've been here a few times with some co-workers. The food is satisfactory and ok for a diner in a strip mall. The only problem is the horrible service and wait time to get coffee and your food. The staff are very unprofessional and treat the regulars far better than the new customers. There hours are bad and often times you pull up with the open sign there and the place is closed or they have private party. I won't return, there are faster places out there with the same quality food.

My husband and I went yday for the first time for a private party. The food was really, really very, very good!. The selection was....beef tenderloin, tilapia and a chicken dish. The chicken soup starter was filled with wonderful fresh veggies. The salad came wrapped in a cucumber slice. I had the tilapia which was really well seasoned with a wonderful sauce. My husband had the beef which was cooked perfectly. The presentation of these dishes is similar to that of which you would see at much pricier downtown restaurants. I had never been before but I definitely will be back. What a delightful meal!

What a hidden gem!! My family came here for dinner to celebrate my dad's birthday. This a BYOB restaurant without a corkage fee which is always a plus. We were seated as soon as we arrived & welcomed by a friendly server. The garlic bread was fresh and delicious. Unfortunately, they were out of one of the specials, but there was still a wide variety to choose from. The presentation of the food was unexpected and impressive for a diner. The tables also had small vases with flowers- a nice touch. There is definitely an older clientele that come here and the place cleared out by 7pm. We all enjoyed our meals and agreed we would come back here - such a nice meal without breaking the bank! I am curious to try their breakfast selection.

Excellent! Husband , myself, and 20 month old stopped here and got grilled chicken caprese sandwich and he got the burger. Quality food, awesome fries, great flavor! The food is surprisingly good for a strip mall diner. The service on the other hand was pretty poor. The waitress barely smiled at us and looked annoyed at being there. It took 45 minutes from the time we ordered until we were served. Also. what's with the menu? Charcoal Crusted Steak? I don't know about you but that doesn't sound appetizing at all! Probably should have had someone proof-read the menu before publishing. No reason to return.

Chef used to work at Four Seasons and he knows food. Food was phenomenal and I'm serious. BYOB. Dinner for two with appetizer was only $40. Decor and ambiance is weak. This is an old fashioned, ugly diner circa 1970 in a nothing-happening strip mall on Touhy Ave. Who cares? I almost licked my plate, it was so good. Shrimp risotto, calamari, beet salad with arugula, pot roast risotto, chicken with lyonaisse potatoes - all superb. I hope it doesn't go upscale so I can continue to come back here without waiting in line.

This place has a great chef(s). The food exceeds all expectations and they are able to do a lot of very different things well. Favorites: Ranchero Nest, fresh squeezed OJ, Crab Cake Benedict, Pulled Pork Torta and the fact that they have Cholula hot sauce on the table. They have several specials every day and the waitresses are always describing how delicious they are and I believe them. I need to keep going back to try more food. Very reasonable prices for large portions. Sometimes service is slow during brunch on the weekends but everyone has always been friendly and I've never had to wait for a table.

After dropping a friend at O'Hare around 11am on a Sunday, stopped in for breakfast. Chose the restaurant based on the high YELP reviews and scores. Restaurant wasn't particularly crowded but it took nearly 30 minutes to get a cup of coffee. When the waitress finally came to take our order, she still didn't bring coffee although we had asked for coffee twice by now. Someone else finally poured us a cup of coffee. When our meals arrived, the waitress did not bring my husband's entire meal. She said she would go back and get the rest of the order--but never came back. A table near us had several of their meals wrong and asked for them to be remade. Upon paying our bill, we mentioned to the cashier my husband's meal was not complete; the response was only a grunt. The food was decent for a good price but did not make up for the poor service. Will not return.

If you want incredible American style food at a great value, head to Sunrise Grill. Their breakfasts are wonderful (diner style) but their dinners will blow you away. I worked in the area for several years, and always made a point to stop in and get some insanely good short ribs, beef stroganoff, or catch of the day. And, if you love dessert, they deliver incredible cheese cake, creme brûlée, and other sweets that will truly make your day.

Good selection of food - had something for eaters that spanned from a vegan, a low fat, an "I'll eat anything", a high protien/low carb. Food was good. Service was fast. Price was great. Does look like a hole-in-the-wall, but we were there for food and conversation, not pretty pictures.

I liked it fine, first timer. My group went for dinner, our mistake was going at 7:30, the place is only open till 9, and they ran out of a lot of the chalkboard specials, and some of the menu items. Our waitress, Nicole, put up with out group of 8, and did a decent enough job taking care of our service. The food was good and at a very reasonable price. My wife had the eggplant parmesan and said it was great, I had a rib eye, which was OK, nothing to get excited about, others around had the sea scallop special and said it was good, my Blue Cheese salad dressing was about the best tasting blue cheese I think I ever had...as others noted, the garlic bread is great too, So, go, you'll like it.

OK, I was really optimistic about this place based on the reviews. I knew going into this that it was going to be a diner type of place in a strip mall so I had no problems with the atmosphere and appearance. The food and service are a different matter. Since this was our first visit my friend and I agreed to sample each others plates. There were a couple of menu options that you don't see on the typical breakfast menu, so that was a plus. Portion size was good. My friend ordered the pesto/avocado omelet. This was well prepared and we both enjoyed the combination of ingredients. I ordered the Local Farmer's Field Supreme Crepes served with hash browns. I asked the server to leave out the green peppers. That was accommodated, but then... They left out three other ingredients listed in the dish! There were no onions, broccoli or EGGS as described on the menu. The crepe batter used was sweetened. They use the same batter for both types of crepes on the menu (sweet and savory). It is not my palate to eat sweet crepes with savory filling. Neither of us enjoyed the hash browns on the side. They were not fully cooked. Disappointing. The service was as others described. A bit slow, but they were friendly.

I've eaten inside this restaurant once with friends and ordered take out twice. Consistently good food. I was told by a friend the service is known to be slow here and my dining experience did reflect just that. The food was worth the wait though and I would give it another try.

Awesome breakfast joint. Staff is efficient and friendly, and the menu is a great mix of classic items and tasty unique breakfast combos. I recommend the Monte Cristo Crepe. ....oh and I have to mention that the fresh squeezed oj is squeezed to order. So fresh and YUM!

Went with family after seeing it reviewed as good place for breakfast in Des Plaines. It was good sized portions and good omelet. Loved the fresh squeezed OJ. Very loud the first time I cam, but so were we so no problem. Lots of families with little ones on a Saturday morning. Attentive service but needed to flag for more coffee. But here was the shocker. I came back for brunch yesterday by myself. (A Mommy mental health day). Again needed to flag for more coffee, but... the servers remembered me. One stopped by and asked me about my kids. That is the kid of feel this place has. While some things could be better (FREEZING bathrooms!) the overall vibe is stellar (food is good & hot). We will be back.

We had a large group Sunday for breakfast. Our table was ready as promised and Stephanie got all our orders straight. The food came promptly and everyone enjoyed their breakfast. Portions were average and the price was reasonable. Stephanie always kept our coffee cups full, too! We will come back for sure when in the area.

The food was great! Home cooked, cheap and easy. Our waitress was charming and very helpful. I had a special- Shirt Ribs with Hollandaise and eggs with english muffin. Very creative- would recommend! We had a large group of 25, we had a reservation and they took very good care of us!

This is definitely one of my family's favorite restaurants. The location might not be the hippest or the most convenient via public transportation, but if you've got the means, Sunrise Grill is a must. We go here fairly often ever since we heard about it four years ago. My dad and I were a bit incredulous about how great this place actually was because we overheard some women in church jabbering on about it for about 10 minutes during a service one day. Then my mom mentioned that one of her good friends told her about this place, so we went for it. This discovery was one of the most valuable ones we had ever made in terms of cuisine. For around 13 dollars, I got beef tenderloin medallions(which were probably some of the best damn things I've ever eaten), potatoes au gratin, a massive piece of broccoli, and a side salad(or soup depending on how you're feeling). No matter what I order, I'm always blown away, and my plate is usually spotless. The waiters and waitresses are always fun too. They're all extremely outgoing, but they know how to treat their customers right without getting too lackadaisical. The sun always shines at 1930 E Touhy Ave.

This place was above and beyond my expectations! The staff is really friendly and the food Is outstanding. I bypass four breakfast places to go to this one. To top it off they are cheap as it gets.

This place always delivers. It's our spot. There's a wide variety. Good chorizo breakfast and skillets and great over easy eggs. Idk what it is about those eggs. The only problem is that the waitresses are always slow no matter the crowd and reach over you through the table to the next person to refill coffee instead of walking around the table. Just enough to notice. They do have flavored creamers on the table. I've heard the chef is this high-end classically trained chef working in a diner. You have to try the crab cake Benedict. Out of this world.

Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner? You won't go wrong at Sunrise Grill! We were there on Sunday with the family and I ordered the Sunrise French Toast. What made it special? The Extra Thick bread was pressed in Granola then stuffed with banana, strawberry and blueberry! No need for syrup. The bread then grilled to golden perfection and served with whipped cream. My husband looked jealous!! He ordered his old favorite the Ham and Cheese omelette, potatoes and pancakes. He was a happy guy! The coffee was always hot (our waitress was very attentive!) and our water glasses were always full. Been here for dinner and the salad that comes with the entree is a work of art. The chef clices a large carrot to encircle the salad. You would think you are at a fine dining restaurant, not a small joint in a strip mall in Des Plaines! The outside (and inside) of Sunrise Grill would surely make some people drive right passed, but boy would they be missing out on some awesome food! Looks like a greasy spoon, but the proof of the pudding is in the eating! At Sunrise Grill you will go home happy and very satisfied with your meal! The prices are reasonable. We will be back again and again!

Strip mall next to a liquor store and a day care. Who cares? Old World charm. Old World offerings. Old World Chicken Dumpling Soup. Soup or salad, plus an entree, a potato AND a vegetable for under $15. Presentation is insanely beautiful for a strip mall "grill". Appetizers are as good as they come, and specials are listed on their website daily. Dessert is delectable at around $4. You will be stuffed, so share it. I don't even like cheesecake and I found myself moaning at the table in foodie ecstasy. Plan on trying the amazing wild mushroom flatbread, paying a $0.00 corkage fee for your BYOB goodies, and experiencing one of the best hidden gems in the Chicago area. Salmon: stellar. NY Strip steak: to die for. Other common offerings include porcini-crusted pork and baked clams. I even saw a lobster walk by! Charming owners, less than stellar to look at. But again -- who cares? I may have seen someone BYOB some Diet Coke. To each his own. Customer for life!

Yum yum yummy, for my tummy and my wallet! It was truly the best breakfast I've ever had. Wheat pancakes with Strawberries, eggs, and bacon. They even asked how I'd like my bacon! I said slightly crispy, and it was exactly that. The pancakes were a perfect proportion; bigger than my fist, smaller than my open hand. And they were truly fluffy ^___^ My portion of the bill: $7.25. On service: Waitress was nice. Checked on us infrequently, which is perfect, as I was catching up with a friend. The venue is cozy, diner-like. My table was clean, we sat by the window. It was nice. They have a small, shared parking lot. I came here during the morning of a weekday (perfect!). Spaces and seating was in abundance. I'm coming here for breakfast every chance I get! (I'm from SF)

We have had breakfast here before (over 2 years ago). My husband and I had a wonderful dining experience today. He had the Lamb Shank, I had Chicken Vesuvio. The presentation was excellent, and the food even better!!! We can't wait to go back and try something different. 5 STARS!!!!!

Great experience at Sunrise Grill. It was within walking distance of our hotel--a definite plus. We both opted for gourmet sandwiches. Mine was marinated portobello with roasted red pepper, asparagus and some other veggies. The flavors were great, and so was the price. The hubby had a Monte Cristo, which he says was "Excellent." We'd love to come and try breakfast. The decor is that of a retro diner, in a way, but simple is fine with us.

Just went here for dinner, and what a pleasant surprise! You would never guess that in this old strip mall, and I mean old, there is a restaurant with cuisine that rivals anything you can get downtown. When you walk in, and see the old greasy spoon tables and Formica countertops, you think this can't be the BYOB place everyone's saying you have to try. Then you get the menu and specials list, with items like whole wheat penne with clams, mussels and shrimp, which I had, and it was delicious. My wife tried the beef tenderloin, also very good. We'll be back to try breakfast, because obviously someone in the kitchen knows what they're doing. Food: 5 stars Service: 5 stars Ambience: 1 star - who cares?

I keep going back and keep bring newbies. And they all are converted to the great food. If you have a two hour layover at Ohare, get a cab and get a great meal. If you are in the burbs around Des Plaines, get to this place.

Hmmm, seems that Sunrise has lost it's way. Was a 4 star, but service is falling off. Concerned about changes to the menu as well. On again off again dinner as well. Will try again to see if it was just a bad day.

Yeah, I'd feel safe eating here. Nothing fancy, but the food is solid (as in quality, not texture/consistency,) the service is good and the prices won't break the bank (oh and the portions are good.) I went on a Sunday morning before hitting up the flea market and they were filled, but there were a few open tables to grab right away (seat yourself.) A nice local place, a good meal. Don't expect anything fancy, but DO expect to have a good meal, good portions and a wallet that won't complain.

They have revamped their menu and added a delicious steak sandwich. Served with grilled onions, Boursin cheese, and mushrooms....it is ever so yummy.

Wanted something to eat before heading to the airport. Found this place for breakfast on Yelp. Good food especially the bacon and waffles. Inexpensive, low key place but well run and the food is better than going to a breakfast restaurant chain. Only negative, bathroom didn't have paper towels.

Im a fan! Great hotcakes and American fried potatoes. I had the Santa fe scrambler, which is as you may have guessed, are scrambled eggs with chorizo and jalapenos. Good portion sizes, friendly service with a smile and great coffee to boot! The only thing is watch where you park in the lot.

I have been to Sunrise Grill multiple times. The food has always been good and a good value. But it has the absolute worst service of any restaurant I have every been to. It doesn't matter what time of day I've gone there, I've been seated promptly and then forgotten. Waitresses are behind the bar, just standing there. I have even had to go up to the counter to ask to put a beverage order in! Today, my dining partner asked for a cup of coffee and after waiting quite awhile, was given 2 tablespoons of coffee in a cup! When questioned, the waitress said someone took the pot from her! So she gives 1 sip in a cup?????? Wouldn't most wait staff wait to bring a full cup?! I do believe the chef is talented, but apparently doesn't know how to train his staff.

Better than average food, better than average service. What more can you say? If you're in the area, stop, but it's not a destination place. Won't get on Diners Drive-Ins & Dives but it's a very decent meal.

I've had less dinner for more money in swankier places, don't judge this book by its cover. Delicious, and reasonably priced, free parking, BYOB and no corking fee. AND I don't have to buy a new outfit to eat here. The calamari app was tender., The baked clams I am told were good. the dinner salad was fresh, I had a delicious, creamy balsamic dressing, as did a few others in the group. Everybody loved what they had. a friend and I each had the the pork 'rack' with mushroom sauce - a giant delicious perfectly cooked pork chop. One of us had the a seafood gnocchi she loved it. all in all every thing we saw going to other a tables looked just as good. We all enjoyed what we had....including the chocolate cake and banana split...... in the end the bill was pleasant surprise... 2 apps, 5 entrees, 2 deserts $112........ will definitely go back. I am just now trying to get my husband up to go for breakfast, I hear it is great too.!

I came here last night for dinner to-go. I had a long day of shopping and was tired and wanted to try something near and close. I don't know how long this place has been in business but hopefully this place sticks around for a long time. I actually arrived there at 9pm which is when they close most of the week. I was real hungry and tired and honestly did not want to drive to another restaurant. I walked in at 9 and they didnt even close yet. I kind of walked up to the register and started looking at the menu. They didn't tell me to leave or say they were closed because I was getting the meal to go. The grill was turned off for the night but one of the pretty ladies asked the chef if he could cook up another meal and the chef was more than happy to do it. I ended up getting the belt-buster burger which is 2 smothering thick patties topped with bacon and onions and sauce. Man, this burger along with the fries filled me so much I haven't had a meal where I felt super stuffed in a looonnngg time!!! I didn't feel terrible like you usually do when eating a mcdonalds meal I felt real full but satisfied then the food coma kicked in. mmm...The fries were alright. They were a bit cold when I got them and not barely salted. They were thick cut fries with the skin attached. The meal ended up being $8.45. I payed 10 bucks end gave the rest as a small tip due to them turning the grill on for me and not refusing me. This place is like Omega or Denny's but better. Its got a very diner feel to it and this place it brightly lit up inside. They do serve shark and other seafood here as well which surprised me on the menu. I'll come back again probably before the year is over. Consider me a fan! :)

I had the American skillet made with corned beef hash and thoroughly enjoyed it. Being New Year's Day, the food took a long time, but the service was friendly and we received our coffee on the house. If you're heading out of Chicago via O'Hare in the early afternoon, this is a wonderful place to go for a late breakfast. Enjoy!

Been going to Sunrise for a year or so now,,,The food is good & prices are reasonable but the service seems to be going down hill. Went last night and it took 40 minutes to get our entree...Ok, acceptable at fine dining restaurants but not here...They need to get the food out! I suspect they may need to add an experienced waitress in the near future as well... Parking can be a nightmare. But, I will be back as they have decent food at reasonable prices.BYOB is a plus.

This place gets such good reviews, I'll have to give it another try. I went here for breakfast with my 6 year old son. He had the Pancakes (as usual), and I had the Eggs Benedict. Did we like it? Not so much. When I first go to a restaurant for breakfast, I tend to order the Eggs Benedict because you can tell a lot about a restaurant by how carefully they prepare the dish. Do they properly poach the egg (firm outside, but yolky inside)? Do they toast the quality English muffin or slap it on the plate raw? Do they use a good quality Canadian bacon or that flavorless stuff? Do they use a packaged hollandaise mix or make it from scratch? Do they allow the orchestral flavors of the dish to express individuality as well as union, allowing none to overwhelm the all? :D When my Eggs Benedict arrived, they were so covered with a thick coating of hollandaise I couldn't see them. Now, I'm not opposed to too much of a good thing (like sausage gravy) but the sauce was way, way way way too sour, and had a weird foamy consistency. The muffin was soggy, I can't recall the canadian bacon at all, and the eggs vanished in flavor and texture somewhere under the sour sauce. I didn't clean my plate. A cardinal sin in my household. Glancing over at my son, he had a somewhat pained expression on his face, and had barely made a dent in his huge plate of pancakes. Did you like your pancakes? "I asked." "No," he said simply, "Let's go home." Now, when a 6 year old will not eat his pancakes, you know something is wrong. I took a bite, and could tell right away the consistency was wrong: gummy. Gummy doesn't make for a good pancake. Maybe a good brownie, but not a pancake. Maybe it was an off morning. I'd like to try it again, but when I can get a consistently well made breakfast just up the street at Mrs. V's, I don't know when I will. I will say that the service was friendly, and the atmosphere was sunny. But I did notice that they tended to favor "regulars", (as is natural) and not pay as much attention to "newbies." I noticed I didn't get refilled quite as often.

You ever call this place for a quick Saturday or Sunday morning breakfast carry-out order and get that dreaded busy signal? I used to think to myself, "They must be so busy taking carry-out orders... I'll keep trying." Except, you never get through. I experienced why this morning. I call to place my order and actually get through to someone who answers the phone in the most non-cheery and unenthusiastic voice I've ever heard, tell her I need to place an order for carry-out and was immediately told, "Ok, hold on a minute" She then placed the phone down on the counter. Didn't put me on hold. That's odd, but ok. No biggie, she'll be back in a minute to take my order. 10 minutes later, I finally figure she's not coming back. Rude. I hang up and call back... and I get that busy signal! Aha! That's the game. Keep the phone off the hook so you don't have to bother answering your phone to take people's money for your product. PERFECT BUSINESS PLAN! Someone needs retraining or they need to put someone up front to answer the phone who actually gives a damn... Bad customer service will kill a business regardless of how good the food is. Hence why I rated them 2 stars as the food is the ONLY saving grace... I suppose.
